01Local knowledge
What we see in Alta Vista homes
Alta Vista was largely built in the 1950s and 60s, and its streets are lined with brick bungalows, split-levels and some two-storey homes. Many were built without central air, which was added later in whatever space the ducts and basement allowed. An air conditioner on a small duct system can be noisy and leave bedrooms warm.
These homes are also at the age where the electrical panel matters. A heat pump or new air conditioner needs a dedicated circuit, and some older panels have little spare capacity. We check the panel during the estimate so you know up front whether an electrician needs to be involved, before you commit to any equipment.
For many Alta Vista bungalows, the right plan is a cold-climate heat pump paired with the gas furnace, sized to the ductwork the house actually has. Where an addition or finished basement was never properly connected to the system, a single ductless head can cover that space without opening ceilings.

Our bungalow never had central air. Can it be added?
Usually, yes, if the existing ducts can carry enough air. If they can't, a ductless system is the alternative. We check duct sizes and the basement layout before recommending either.
Do I need a panel upgrade for a heat pump?
Not always. It depends on your panel's size and what's already on it. We look at it during the estimate and tell you if an electrician will need to make changes.
Why is our air conditioner so loud inside the house?
Often the ducts are too small for the airflow the unit needs, so air rushes through the registers. Adding return air or adjusting the blower speed can quiet it down.
