Heating & cooling in Orléans
Orléans is in Ottawa's east end, about 20 km from our west-end shop in a straight line. It grew from a small francophone village into a large suburb, mostly from the 1970s onward, so its homes range from early split-levels to recent townhomes.

What we see in Orléans homes
The older parts of Orléans were built in the 1970s and 80s, largely detached homes, split-levels and semis with forced-air gas heat. Many of those houses added central air later, so the air conditioner may be a different age and size from the furnace. Mismatched equipment like that is worth checking before either piece fails.
Newer neighbourhoods have filled in since the 1990s with townhomes and detached houses. Their original air conditioners are reaching the age where summer breakdowns become common: a capacitor fails on the first hot weekend, the coil ices up, or the compressor won't start. A proper diagnosis comes before any recommendation to replace.
For Orléans homeowners replacing an air conditioner, a cold-climate heat pump is worth comparing. In a gas-heated home, it takes over cooling and much of the spring and fall heating while the furnace covers the coldest weeks. Enbridge-heated homes can qualify for up to $2,000 through Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program, subject to its rules.

Do you service homes in Orléans from the west end?
Yes. Our shop is in Carlington, and Orléans is within our service area, and we give free estimates on new equipment there.
Our AC is newer than our furnace. Can we replace just the furnace?
Yes, as long as the new furnace's blower and coil connection suit the existing air conditioner. We check the AC's size and refrigerant type so the two work together.
Is a heat pump worth it if we keep our gas furnace?
For many gas-heated homes it is, especially when the air conditioner needs replacing anyway. The heat pump handles cooling and milder heating days, and the furnace runs only when it's very cold. We'll walk you through the trade-offs for your house.
