Almonte, Mississippi Mills
Heating & cooling in Almonte
Almonte grew up as a mill town on the Mississippi River, and many of its stone and brick buildings are still standing. Heating and cooling those older homes takes a different approach than a newer house, and we plan each job around the building.

01Local knowledge
What we see in Almonte homes
Thick stone and solid brick walls hold heat well but leave little room to run new ducts. Many older Almonte homes heat with a hot-water boiler and radiators. We service and replace boilers, and when a boiler is near the end of its life we talk through whether a new high-efficiency boiler or a different system fits the house better.
For cooling in those same houses, ductless mini-splits are usually the practical route. A small line set goes through the wall to slim indoor heads, with no ductwork to hide. They also heat efficiently in spring and fall, which lets the boiler sit idle for part of the year.
Mississippi Mills also has newer homes in and around Almonte and plenty of rural properties beyond it. Out in the countryside, many houses rely on propane, oil or wood. A gas fireplace insert or a cold-climate heat pump can take a lot of load off an older system on those properties.

About 40 km from Almonte
Do you come out to Almonte?
Yes. We serve Almonte and the rest of Mississippi Mills from our Ottawa shop, which is about 39 km away in a straight line. There is no charge to estimate new equipment.
Can I add air conditioning to a stone house without tearing into the walls?
Yes. A ductless system needs only a small hole through the wall for each indoor head's line set. We'll look at where the heads and outdoor unit can go and keep the work as tidy as the building allows.
Should I replace my old boiler or switch to something else?
It depends on the condition of your radiators and piping, how you'd like to cool the house, and what fuel you have. A new boiler keeps the radiators you already have. We'll lay out the options in writing so you can decide.
