01Local knowledge
What we see in Carleton Place homes
Near the river and the old downtown, many houses were built long before central air was common. Some have had ductwork added in stages over the years, which can leave upstairs bedrooms short on airflow. Before we quote a new furnace or heat pump, we look at how the existing ducts are laid out and where the return air comes from.
The newer subdivisions are a different job. These homes usually have a gas furnace and a central air conditioner installed by the builder, often the same models on every street. When the builder-grade air conditioner wears out, it is a natural time to look at a heat pump that cools in summer and takes over much of the heating.
Outside the town core, on the rural roads of the surrounding area, natural gas often isn't available and homes heat with oil, propane or electric baseboard. For those houses, a cold-climate heat pump can cut fuel costs a lot, and Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program offers larger rebates to homes that don't heat with natural gas.

FAQ
HVAC in Carleton Place: common questions
Not covered here? Call 613-315-7325 and ask a technician.
Do you come out to Carleton Place?
Yes. Apple HVAC serves Carleton Place from our shop in Ottawa's west end, about 41 km away in a straight line. We don't charge for estimates on new equipment.
My house outside town heats with oil. Is a heat pump worth it?
Often, yes. Oil is one of the more expensive ways to heat, and a cold-climate heat pump can carry most of the load. Homes that don't heat with natural gas can qualify for up to $7,500 through Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program, but the heat pump has to be pre-approved and installed by a participating contractor, so check the program rules before you sign anything.
My newer home's air conditioner is about 12 years old. Replace it or repair it?
If it needs a major part like a compressor, replacement usually makes more sense. We'll tell you what's wrong, what a repair involves, and what a replacement or heat pump would look like, so you can compare.
